Mar Cuervo

Mar is born in A Coruña, Spain in 1980 but she grew up in Vigo and her heart belongs to this city. Thanks to her brother she was never named Paloma. Her practice engages issues surrounding female identity as result of their struggle for autonomy. With her photographs and installations she expresses a curiosity about how women are finding their niche in today's society without giving up their natural and instinctive qualities. She is interested in the "hidden feminine" and the immaterial patrimony of femininity, most recently she's been interested in those situations where women are in the majority in a male dominated field. She explores the idea of art as a weapon of social engagement and believes in the sociological and cognitive meaning of photography. She lives and works in Madrid and is represented by "Galería 6mas1" (). She is mad about sweets, sun, sleeping, R&R, traveling and dogs.
Current & Future works :Currently involved in a series of portaits of women communities of clam harvesters called "Sereas"
