ABOUT MARCUS GILES


Marcus Roy Giles was born in 1985 in Truro, Cornwall. He graduated from Plymouth University, with a BA (Hons) degree in Contemporary Creative Practice in 2016. After his degree, he was the recipient of the Krowji Art Award 2016. His inspiration stems from the observation of the Cornish coast and landscape which began a journey into landscape painting growing up in North Cornwall. Being surrounded by land, this gave him the inspiration for his work. He has always been consistently drawn towards realism; however, his style has changed slightly becoming looser through the exploration of a variety of tools since he started the BA (Hons) course in Contemporary Creative Practice, this has evolved to become more lose in style. His latest work has been exploring with different tools to work with, for example, rollers and broken rulers and pallet knives to give an uncontrolled feel to the work, also using wet and dry paint to give a feeling that translates what he sees onto the canvas.

He likes to record the ever changing landscapes that surround him; this has been his focus in his latest works since being on the course. His practice has been drawn towards current matters, particularly environmental landscape art....
