Maria Bourbou

I grew up in Athens. I am a visual artist. My main art form is photography. Most of my work is a combination of personal experiences and perceptions of life. My work mixes dream and reality through high-intensity colours and black & white scenes. I have chosen to use digital processing to create an intense expressive result. My goal is to create an artistic image that is marked by the unconscious and that surpasses the readability of the object.
The central point of my work is nature in the sense of landscape and how I perceive it: the nature of specific situations, as well as human nature, specifically the character and temperament in the urban environment and the outdoors.
The last years I am working and living in different countries in Europe. I love to travel and to discover other cultures. This brings me a great impetus and enables me to develop my work. I am a permanent artist at the "22Atelier", an independent space of artistic production and creation located in Arroios, in the center of Lisbon (Portugal).
