Marianne Simonin

I am a French artist, living and practicing in London (UK).

My art practice takes birth from different sources - memories, identity, poetry - and is often rooted in indian traditions, yet not exclusively.

Accessing and harnessing energy is one of my main focus when I start a new work. When being drawn to paint figuratively I often source my material from black and white photos of women who exudes independence, originality, and a deep connection with their feminine power, and it is their essence that I will aim to translate

Another side of me is to periodically yearn to work in a more abstract way; not from a chaotic or spontaneous outflow of energy, but from one guided by elements of a more cosmic dimension. Seeking to experience oneness within me, and to connect with the birth process of the manifested world, I enter a meditative state, working with primordial shapes such as the circle, triangle or square, and intuitively organize them on the canvas until a dialogue between shapes and colours start emerging. The Bindu (the point of unmanifested energy) can initiate the work or can complete it as a final mark. Invisible forces are deployed, that can be captured during the process.
