Mariclair Plante is a Canadian abstract painter working in a refined painterly abstraction, where gesture, material, and space are held in deliberate tension.
Her work is built through layered processes and mixed media, creating atmospheric fields in which marks emerge, dissolve, and reconfigure. Rather than describing, her paintings operate through presence — inviting a slow and perceptive engagement.
Balancing restraint and intensity, her practice explores how minimal gestures can carry emotional weight. Recent work reflects a more distilled approach, emphasizing silence, structure, and material sensitivity over excess.
Positioned between gestural abstraction and color field painting, her work resonates with collectors seeking contemporary, elegant, and emotionally grounded abstraction.
