Marijean Harris

After a fulfilling career in commercial art, I’ve returned to what has always called to me most—painting full‑time. My work centres on abstract landscapes inspired by the shifting light, layered textures, and quiet strength of the natural world. These imagined environments are less about representing real places and more about evoking the feeling of being within them—moments of stillness, movement, and memory that feel both familiar and elusive. In the studio, I work intuitively, layering colour, tone, and texture through mark‑making, scraping, and quiet adjustments over time. The process often feels like a conversation between control and surrender—a kind of dance where the painting gradually takes the lead. My goal is to create works that invite others to slow down, explore, and reconnect with their own sense of landscape—both internal and external.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) with a specialization in Visual Arts and Art History from York University, as well as a degree in Graphic Design from Humber College, graduating from both programs with distinction. With over 30 years of experience in the art world, my career has been shaped by a deep passion for artistic expression and a commitment to honing my craft. My educational background and years of experience have contributed significantly to my artistic style and approach, informing the way I interpret and capture the beauty of the natural world on canvas.
