Marjorie Snyder is an oil painter based in Portland, Oregon, originally from Rhode Island. Growing up near the water continues to inform her sensitivity to movement, atmosphere, and emotional still lives. She paints from her studio in North Portland, drawing inspiration from both coasts.
In her work, texture and pattern become sites of exploration. Through layered oil paint, she creates surfaces that invite close looking, where abstraction and realism intersect. Her paintings inhabit the tension of familiar yet slightly off-kilter, grounded yet untethered—often exploring themes of flight, water, habitat, and transition.
Marjorie studied Studio Art at the University of Vermont, where she developed a strong foundation in material exploration and first fell in love with Oil Painting.
Oil remains her chosen medium for its richness and depth, and for its ability to hold both movement and stillness within a single surface.
