Mark A Bradford

Mark A. Bradford is a British-American contemporary painter whose work explores landscape through observation, memory and imagination.

Working primarily in oils, Mark is interested in the point at which representation begins to move toward abstraction. Landscapes provide the starting point, but light, atmosphere, color and the physical character of paint ultimately determine the direction of each work.

His paintings are built through layers of transparent and opaque color, combining brushwork with palette-knife marks and allowing areas of the surface to remain deliberately gestural. Influenced by the traditions of landscape painting and the Old Masters, his work seeks a contemporary visual language in which recognizable places coexist with memory and interpretation.

Originally from the United Kingdom and now based in Florida, Mark's subjects range from the American landscape to places encountered through travel in Europe and beyond. His original paintings are held in private collections, with selected works also available as fine art editions.
