Mark Evan Segal (马逸文 Ma Yiwen) is an American visual artist whose work explores the intersection of Chinese and Western artistic traditions. Working across drawing, painting, porcelain, and installation, Segal investigates landscape, memory, and perception through a practice shaped by years of study and work in both the United States, Italy and China.
After earning his MFA in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, Italy, Segal taught printmaking and art history at Paier College of Art before spending four years teaching AP Art and Design in Hangzhou, China. During this time, he developed a deep engagement with Chinese painting and aesthetics.
Drawing inspiration from both Chinese landscape painting and contemporary Western art, Segal creates contemplative works that blur the boundaries between observation, memory, and imagination. His monochromatic landscapes, porcelain works, and installations seek to create spaces for reflection while exploring how artistic traditions evolve through cultural exchange. Through his work, Segal aims to reveal the enduring connections between nature, place, and the human experience.
