Martha Solorzano

I was born in Nicaragua, the land of volcanoes, lakes, and poets. I left when I was nine to go to boarding school in Vienna. I moved to the USA when I was twelve. As early as I remember, I've always been in love...in love with life, womanhood, laughter, passion and sorrow. On my skin I wear the smell of sugar cane, the sun, and the ocean. I am a forever creative artist. My last endeavor is A TRUCKLOAD OF ART, a mobile art gallery.

Influenced by Picasso’s period of cubism, and surrealism and De Kooning’s abstract expressionism, M. Solorzano paints biomorphic shapes. She is great at ambiguously blending figure and ground in her pictures while dismembering, re-assembling and distorting her figures in the process. An admirer of beauty, she paints the female form as the mother of the universe, and nature meshed into one. Her art has been changing through the years to a more figurative style and melodic lines.

I went to an arts highschool, studied theatre in college, Boston University, studied film in NY and LA, and started painting because my heart yearned for my loved one who was away. I am a self taught painter and photographer. I paint what I am feeling. I paint love, sex, childsplay, and sorrow.
