The portraits I create do not correspond to the common notion of a portrait, in which a face is painted - more or less similar to reality. Rather, what these abstract portraits represent is a mirror of the soul – colors, shapes and symbols in which the viewer recognises themselves, thereby initiating the process of restoring energetic balance.
The artistic process begins by applying a black background, which allows me to enter the subtle, energetic realm of the subject to be portrayed. The same creation of this background alone requires different movements and brushstrokes for each individual, serving as a prelude to what will take shape later on.
Every color and every shape that is subsequently created is a material expression of an energetic movement within the individual, which seeks to emerge so that it may be seen and recognised.
Contrary to all preconceptions, the black background makes the colors stand out, as if they were eager to take their rightful place and finally reveal themselves to the light. Black, therefore, is not a negative element or something to be feared, but an integral part of our universe: Light and Shadow merge and are indivisible parts of a perfect Tao, enhancing one another.
