Martin Peeves

Martin Peeves (born Eric Abaka) is a Ghanaian-American interdisciplinary artist and educator based between Accra and Philadelphia. His work spans drawing, painting, installation, performance, video, sound, music, and fashion, exploring cultural assimilation and diasporic identity through a process-driven, research-led approach.
He holds a BA in Arts Management from Luther College and an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of the Arts. He is currently pursuing a practice-based doctorate at the Transart Institute in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, focusing on inclusive approaches to observational drawing through the development of the Wholly Drawing method.
As a Teaching Artist at the Center for Creative Works in Philadelphia, Peeves collaborates with and supports neurodiverse adults in cultivating creativity as a means of autonomy, shared agency, and self-determination. His practice is grounded in discourses of postmodernism, postcolonialism - African epistemic resurgence and positioning the creative process as a transformative mode of knowledge production and cultural reclamation.
