Matt was born in South Australia, Australia in 1985.
Through investigations into the reflection of emotion, my work represents the human condition through cast glass human forms. I find great beauty in the notions of aloneness, existential thought and emotion and how these states enable a redefinition and exploration of our own selves. My figures represent the position of the self in the world as they ponder their personal stance. I aim to capture the rawness of emotion through the simplicity of the figure and its stark surroundings.
We exhaust and break down all thought in moments of despair. There appears that there is nothing left to loose, everything gone. Everyone has experienced these feelings in some degree. It is overwhelming and it takes us to another place. These moments can become beautiful, there is hope when examined and understood. It is during these moments change can occur and define who and what we are.
My work is in quiet reflection and explores the physical impact emotional states have on the body. I focus upon painful emotions that engulf us for a period of time. Emotion does not just effect the mind; it emanates through out the body, through the bones, the bloodthe flesh.
