Sarah Baldwin

I am Maudi NK, a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in ink, experimental drawing, book arts, and found materials. My work explores identity, mortality, ecology, and transformation through processes that embrace repetition, chance, decay, and impermanence.

My Buddhist practice deeply influences the way I approach art-making. Rather than trying to completely control an image, I allow materials to participate in its creation. Ink bleeds and evaporates. Hand-stamped marks accumulate through repetition. Found materials bring their own histories. Accidents become part of the work.

I am particularly interested in the space between creation and disappearance, how landscapes change, bodies age, memories shift, materials decay, and identities continually evolve. Death appears frequently in my work, not simply as an ending, but as part of an ongoing process of transformation.

My practice includes three interconnected bodies of work: **Seedbomb**, which uses repetitive marks and meditation to contemplate mortality and possibility; **Maud**, a narrative exploration of identity, memory, and archetype through mythology and fairytales; and **Territory Decay**, which incorporates found and altered materials to examine ecology, place, and...

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Southern Maine. My education has continued through artist residencies, collaborative projects, professional work in art framing and bookbinding, and an ongoing exploration of experimental art processes, ecology, art history, and Buddhist philosophy.

Maudi NK is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, book artist, and professional art framer. She was a founding member and sole lead artist of Autus, a Maine-based artist collective, where she helped develop and curate collaborative exhibitions and experimental arts programming.

Selected Exhibitions & Projects

INFLUX: Creator, lead artist, and curator of a two-year multimedia public art exhibition presented in a repurposed textile mill. The project received grant funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts through SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine, including additional funding awarded to support the project's development.

Territory Decay: Solo, grant-funded exhibition/project at Engine, supported by the Maine Arts Commission.

Autus Collective: Founding member, lead artist, curator, and collaborator on multidisciplinary exhibitions and arts projects in Maine.
