Maura's artistic journey is a profound testament to the transformative power of art. Her journey began from a place of solace and reflection after being deeply and personally being touched by war's misery and losses. Her earliest memory of drawing trees at the tender age of five foreshadowed a lifelong exploration of the natural world through artistic expression, and her eye for composition was enhanced by an earlier background in photography.

Maura's formal education was initially in water media, thanks to exceptional instructors in Nashville. From there, she journeyed to the hallowed halls of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), where she delved into the world of Abstract Expressionism. It is in this foundational study and an insatiable journey of unearthing new processes and defying conventional artistic norms that Maura's distinctive artistry takes shape.
