Maurizio Capisani

Capisani's sculptural practice focuses on the use of recycled materials and discarded objects such as iron, wood, steel, and brass. The artist transforms industrial or natural waste into unique pieces, giving them a new chromatic skin, uniting the material's history with a new aesthetic vision.

The sculptures are born from a direct relationship with waste. The wood comes from semi-industrial production waste from the carpentry shop located across the street from the artist's studio. The metal components—screws, gears, sheet metal, circuit boards—are recovered by dismantling broken appliances, old computers, radios, record players, electric motors, and other discarded devices.

Already during the dismantling phase, the artist glimpses potential anatomical elements in the fragments: eyes, noses, mouths, arms, legs. This possibility, however, is not immediately captured: the materials are first sorted by shape and expressive potential and stored in numerous boxes—wood on one side, metal on the other.

Maurizio Capisani boasts a diverse artistic background, ranging from theater to performing art, including video production. Since 2004, he has collaborated closely with Sabrina Conte: performance, urban art, and interactive media projects merge and develop within the acquasumARTE project, founded by the artist duo in 2007.

Capisani's work is rooted between the cultural dynamism of Milan and the reflective quiet of the Oltrepò Pavese. The choice of discarded materials is not merely aesthetic, but becomes a conceptual commitment, reflecting on contemporary consumption, sustainability, and the value of small everyday things.
