I paint, then I wound my paintings.

This intervention runs through every series, sometimes unmistakably, at other times barely visible. There is something sculptural in the gesture: I add matter, but I also remove and displace it, uncovering what remains beneath. With a palette knife, I open incisions through the layers of paint, leaving real grooves in the surface. Their irregularities, breaks, and proximity set up a vibration across the canvas. These marks suggest the weight of memory and, sometimes, trauma: what has happened persists as an alteration, even when subsequent layers seem to conceal it.

My paintings take shape as territories with a material history. Acrylic layers and the depth of oil build surfaces that can be scraped back to expose earlier stages of their making: accumulations, buried passages, fragments returning to view. I am interested in how experience settles within us and continues to affect perception.

In some series, blocks and monoliths, when scraped or crossed by incisions, may reveal the earliest marks on the canvas.
