Artist Statement & Biography
> “If the artist creates from the heart, his art will always be relevant.”
— Max Richman (Zurab Simonishvili)
Max Richman (real name Zurab Simonishvili) is a Georgian-born, Swiss-based contemporary painter and sculptor whose artistic language blends color, texture, light, and spirit into a single living form. His distinctive approach — often called Abstract Sculptural Painting — unites painting and relief, emotion and geometry, creating luminous surfaces that seem to breathe with divine energy.
Eccentric and original, Max captures the attention of art collectors with his vivid, non-standard compositions, inexhaustible energy, and a constant quest for new knowledge. Critics note a mystical component in nearly all his works, often describing them as Abstract Expressionism infused with spirituality.
Born and raised in Tbilisi, he later lived in Moscow, where he developed a passion for music and theater. Upon returning home, he studied fine arts at the Iakob Nikoladze Art School, one of Georgia’s most respected art institutions.

His artistic breakthrough came in 2012, when he participated in the national competition “Find a New Artist.” Immediately afterward, the State Museum of Theatre, Music, Cinema and Choreography in Tbilisi hosted his first solo exhibition, marking his arrival on the Georgian contemporary art scene.
In 2013, he presented his next major project, “Unity in Diversity” (Color est e pluribus unum), at New Gallery, Kiev (Ukraine) — symbolizing how different colors and forms merge to create one new harmony. In 2014, his new works were featured at A-Gallery (Kiev).
> “Unity in Diversity” expresses the artist’s vision that love for the surrounding space unites all beings and ideas. His technique highlights this harmony through vibrant colors, textures, and abstract structures — evoking sensations of both emotion and transcendence.
In 2014–2015, Max Richman’s works participated in several charitable and international projects, including:
Mystetski Arsenal Art Kyiv Contemporary (2015)
His art was also shown at:
