Melvyn Kahan

Melvyn Kahan, currently living in Wembley Middlesex, was born in 1949 in Newcastle upon Tyne to Jewish refugee parents from Europe. The son of a synagogue Cantor (Chazan) he was brought up in both Newcastle, and later Hove Sussex, in a Jewish religious environment, the practices of which he continues to observe. His Jewish heritage and affinity to the Biblical Jewish homeland feature in much of his work. Melvyn currently paints in oils, and has used other media at various times.

Educated at local Grammar schools of Newcastle and Hove, and graduating from Surrey, Jerusalem, and London Universities, Dr.Kahan spent his working life as a medical research scientist in the field of Microbiology and Immunology. Painting has become his retirement activity. Other than sparse art classes in secondary school he has not had formal art training.

In terms of displaying his work, this his new Saatchi Account, may serve to share his images to a wider audience than solely his friends and family, and may provide an opportunity for anyone who might like his work to obtain a print.
