About Miljenko Šimić

I live and work in Zagreb, Croatia. I was first schooled in Business & Economics at Sophia University Japan, where I had lived for the most part of the 1990s. Then, upon returning home, I pursued a career in Croatian civil service. I have spent 6 or 7 years working in the bleak government bureaucracy during the 2000s. Upon realization that it wasn't really for me, I took a part-time job with a publishing company (mostly translating business and economics books) and enrolled into the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, a respected institution dating back to 1907, where I majored in painting. In my art I try to pass on what I think I know about the worldly affairs, and the precariousness affecting the ailing human society and the natural environment. I try to combine these topics with my understanding of the philosophy of art and finally strive to produce work possessing a measure of conceptual/visual integrity.
