Mirko Credito

Mirko Credito (Genoa, 1971) is a multidisciplinary artist working across video art, photography, installation and digital research. His practice explores the tension between control and chance, using obsolete and analogue technologies — magnetic tape, scanners, dot matrix printers, dry transfer lettering — to generate images that resist exactness.
Early works include Maschere di patate and the Fritture series, in which everyday objects are fried and scanned at high resolution, transforming the familiar into abstract icons suspended between sculpture and photography. With the Fast Forward Portrait series, Credito used an analogue video camera on 8mm magnetic tape, selecting frames during fast-forward playback — making the distortion of the medium an integral part of the image.
His recent video installations — including Elsa and Déjà Vu - Tempo Intermittente — develop a hybrid process in which individual frames from Super 8 and 16mm archival films are scanned, printed on paper, and reworked by hand through painterly gestures, drawing and Letraset dry transfer lettering.
