Ryo Shimizu

I have been working as a video artist since 2001. I have a wide variety of video genres. Movie, documentary, music video, corporate advertisement, etc. In addition, since 2018, I expanded the range of activities as artists including paintings and installations.

As a video artist for advertising, I have been staring at the various people through the camera’s viewfinder. There is absolutely something that separates the photographer from the interviewed person or actor. It may be the difference between the way of thinking and the growing environment, or the problem of closeness with each other. Those separations that can not be visualized are called boundaries. Rather than defining the boundaries as words, I try to express them in paintings.
