About Muni Natarajan
Muni Natarajan's artwork reflects his diverse and fascinating background, blending tropical flora and mystical landscapes. His experience as a monk, yogi and initiated Swami, living on the garden isle of Kauai for over 30 years, is reflected in his art which portrays all of nature as alive with Spirit. Muni was enrolled in formal art training at the early age of seven. During his high school years, he studied art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After high school, he studied at the Art Students League in New York City. He then pursued a double major in art and music at the University of Indiana, Bloomington. After university training, Muni became a professional musician and artist while living in San Francisco and Honolulu. While in college, Muni became deeply inspired by the teachings of Satguru Subramuniaswami who became his guru and spiritual teacher. He was initiated into Sannyas in 1980. During his years in the monastery, he served as a writer, editor and graphic design director for Hinduism Today magazine. His graphic design skill has been featured in such books as Merging with Shiva, Living with Shiva, and Dancing with Shiva. He has studied Sanskrit, eastern drumming and Yoga throughout India and Southeast Asia, and has traveled the world leading devotional kirtan. His art continues to communicate his discoveries and inspirations.
