Mohammed Al-Ibrahim

I paint because I must. Painting is the language through which I imagine, question, remember, and respond to the world around me. It is both an instinct and an inquiry, a continuous search for meaning through the interplay of line, colour, form, and gesture.

For more than a decade, my work explored abstraction as a vehicle for emotion. Through movement, color relationships, and compositional tension, I sought to capture experiences that often resist words. Abstract painting offered a direct and immediate encounter with feeling, allowing emotion to emerge through the physical act of painting itself.

My recent work returns to the human figure and portraiture, where my artistic journey first began nearly two decades ago. This return is not a departure from abstraction, but an expansion of it. The figure becomes a meeting place between observation and invention, structure and spontaneity, beauty and psychological depth. In every portrait, I seek not merely a likeness, but the presence of a lived experience.

My practice is shaped by a dialogue between seemingly opposing traditions. I am drawn to Leonardo’s relentless curiosity about the human condition, Sargent’s mastery of light and economy of gesture, Monet’s sensitivity to atmosph...
