Mona Barbu

Mona Barbu is a Bucharest-based abstract artist whose work unfolds through layered surfaces, fluid movement, and quiet material tension.

Pigment settles, dissolves, and re-emerges—forming textures that feel both grounded and atmospheric. Her paintings suggest landscapes that are not seen, but sensed: traces of earth, water, air, and light held within the surface.

Working through processes of layering, masking, and erosion, she allows each piece to evolve gradually. Control and spontaneity coexist, giving rise to forms that appear suspended between structure and release.

Her practice explores transformation as a continuous state—where stillness carries movement, and depth reveals itself over time. Across her ongoing series, the work reflects an intimate dialogue between natural forces and the inner landscape.

Mona Barbu’s paintings are held in private collections across Europe and the United States.
