Monika Ślósarczyk is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow - one of Poland's most prestigious artistic institutions. Based in Cieszyn, she has exhibited her work in over 200 solo and group exhibitions throughout her career spanning more than two decades.
Her works are sum of figurative painting and sociological observation - interpreting reality instead of reflecting it. Everything is a subject. Nothing is off limits.
What defines Ślósarczyk's practice is its radical materiality.
She creates her paintings with whatever the piece demands spanning from traditional materials, to using construction pigments, sand, coffee grounds, newspapers, gold and silver leafs - applied onto pre-printed colorful canvases. No single tool defines her process. The result is a surface that cannot be planned, controlled, or repeated. No two works are physically possible to replicate, not by intention, but by the very nature of the process.
Her uncommon approach to art and her own style developed through decades, make her paintings truly unique. Every piece is one of a kind - not as a claim, but as a fact.
