Leon Goro

Hey! I'm a London-based Latino illustrator.

For as long as I can remember, I've drawn. Always curious and introverted, as a boy, I could entertain myself for hours with nothing but a stack of white sheets of paper and coloured pencils. In undergrad, I began a more serious relationship with lines, when I learnt about "hachures" as a way of representing relief in maps and blueprints, and how to bend and curve their thickness and overall density to form an image.

I have a love affair with fine liners, fountain pens, and ink in general, and I relish working with graphite, watercolours, oils, acrylics, as well as the printing press that I use to create monoprints and drypoints.

I am most passionate about drawing the people that I notice, their distinguishing features, the splendour of their faces, the sinuosity of their bodies. I also take pleasure in drawing animals, buildings, and still life in general.

I hold a Bachelor of Architecture degree ('13), and a postgraduate certificate in Art Studies ('15). I've also read several art history courses.

From 2010 to 2013, I was an active member of Archivo Gráfico, a graphic arts collective based in Mexico City.

From 2011 to 2014, I taught a number of art workshops to architecture and design undergraduates at Universidad Anáhuac, in Mexico City.
