Artist Lu Guanyu (Mu Ran Gong) founded the “Fantasy-Color Freehand” system, a contemporary art practice deeply rooted in Chinese landscape philosophy and cosmology. Inspired by his master’s teaching that “Nature is my teacher,” his work transcends the depiction of scenery, striving instead to visualize the invisible energy fields that govern all existence—the manifestation of “Dao.”
He developed a core methodology termed “Temporal Overlays,” fusing the cosmic vision of the Song and Yuan dynasties, the literati brush spirit of the Ming and Qing, the textures of Dunhuang frescoes, and even the Western scientific deconstruction of light and color within a single picture plane. Thus, his paintings become “crystals of time,” carrying the aesthetic memory of millennia. In the Cosmic Imagery series, traditional landscape symbols dissolve entirely into swirling color vortices and energetic topologies, constructing internal “Heartscapes” that resonate with the cosmos.
Mu Rangong, born Lu Jinsong with the courtesy name Guanyu, is a painter and contemporary artist. He graduated from the Stage Design Department of the Liaoning Opera Theater and later completed the Advanced Studies Program in the Oil Painting Department of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. A disciple of the esteemed master Ran Shi from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, he is the founder of the Fantasy-Color Freehand ink painting style.
In his early years, he received direct instruction from the painter and art educator Wang Shenglie and Lü Fuhui, mastering both Eastern and Western painting techniques. His works have been exhibited numerous times and are held in collections both in China and abroad.
