My landscapes are responses through observation of a site I been inspired by either directly or from memory. They are an attempt to reveal a sense of place and a story to the viewer. The story being told is a visual translation of shifting light, space and time. The layers achieved in paint are the physical embodiment and memory of the experience. This is a re-occurring theme in most of my work. I will revisit the site numerous times to build up a memory and knowledge of it. Ancient, strangely lit, isolated, vast, dramatic landscapes at the time of Dawn or Dusk are the most inspiring for me, when light is at its most transitional. Places I have painted include Kimberley Region Western Australia, Central desert Australia- Arrente country, Uluru Anangu Land, Blue Mountains NSW, Lake George NSW, Flinders Ranges, South Australia. Elizabeth Cummings, Namatjira, Emily Kame Kngwarre (AUS), Emile Nolde, Bonnard, Vuillard, Friedrich, Turner, Monet (EU)are some major influences.
