Nathan Birchenough

Contemporary Landscape painter, pursuing a psychogeographic study of holy and haunted places. After a childhood on the Wirral in rural Cheshire and Merseyside, then Derbyshire's High Peak, I now live between London and Palermo, Sicily. Rural landscapes, lonely urban cityscapes, the awesome mountains of North Wales where I climbed as a child, and the stunning Mediterranean scenery of Sicily, inspire my paintings. The first solo exhibition of my work was held in Buxton Art Gallery over 20 years ago, and whilst I have explored other forms of art such as sculpture, painting, photography and performance in the following years, I have always returned to painting.
