Nicol Vacaru is a contemporary artist working primarily with ink on paper, exploring figurative abstraction through expressive line, movement, and negative space. Her work focuses on human presence, identity, connection, and the inner states that often remain unspoken.
Through fluid yet deliberate brushstrokes, human profiles and figures emerge, overlap, dissolve, or become enclosed within larger forms. Working in black ink as well as warm sepia and ochre tones, Vacaru balances density with openness, allowing untouched areas of paper to become an active part of each composition.
Trained in architecture, she approaches the image with a strong sensitivity to structure, rhythm, proportion, and space. Her practice moves between control and spontaneity, transforming minimal gestures into emotionally resonant works that invite reflection rather than prescribe a single interpretation.
Her drawings explore what exists between the visible and the internal — the subtle connections, memories, tensions, and transformations that shape human experience.
