My interest in art started at an early age.
I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do.

The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style.
Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist.
The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.

I went to art school at Nottingham Trent University to study art photography. It was here that my influences broadened, although it was the Abstract Expressionists and Minimalists that really caught my attention. In particular, the artists Barnett Newman, Carl Andre and Frank Stella were the ones that influenced me most. Although my education at degree level was in the photographic arts, I always had an equal amount of interest in painting. It was not for another two decades though, that I actually started to explore paint as an integral part of my art practice.

During my time at Art School, I worked under the acclaimed artists John Davies, Peter Fraser and Susan Lipper. These highly esteemed practitioners of the arts guided and taught me many things, but especially:

'that all details in an art work, no matter how small, have importance.'

Finally, I have recently taken a great interest in the American painter George Condo, admiring very much what I heard him say in recent interview:

".... a good artist does not take from art but gives to it".

Taking from the teaching I mention above, I try to uphold these values when I create my own paintings

2019 - ‘EXPRESSIONS’ solo exhibition at 35 Gallery, Sheffield, England.

I have paintings owned in private collections in London and Sheffield, California and New York.
