Nura Garba (b. 1978) is a contemporary mixed-media artist and academic who merges Western art conventions with Northern Nigerian craft traditions. Drawing from Katsina State's artisanal heritage, his highly manual process transforms discarded materials, such as raffia, fabric, leather, and jute, into tactile assemblages through binding, threading, and burning.
Central to his visual language is the calabash, which he deconstructs to explore themes of morality, gender, and oppression while reflecting contemporary Northern Nigerian identity.
An art educator for over a decade, Garba holds an MFA in Painting from Ahmadu Bello University, where he currently teaches and is pursuing his PhD. His diverse portfolio of murals, public sculptures, and mixed-media installations is featured in numerous private and corporate collections.
