Born in Japan, he moved to Berlin and in 2001 became the first Japanese artist to hold an atelier at Kunsthaus Tacheles, the legendary experimental art center. In 2002, he received one of the earliest residence permits issued "für Kunst" (for artistic purposes) in Germany — a precedent that preceded the country's formal artist visa framework.
He is also the author of two books published in Japanese, English, and German: Techniques for Awareness and Techniques for Resonance. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Zürich, Basel, Palma de Mallorca, and New York, and is held in private collections across Europe and Japan.
OBOSHI's paintings seek what cannot quite be explained — a lightness in the chest, a vibration that meets the viewer's inner rhythm.
