Clothilde Oddoart

I am a French visual artist based in France. Working in large-format charcoal on paper, my practice is rooted in drawing as a critical and poetic act.
My work investigates the living body as a site of political meaning exploring interspecies relationships, representations of power, and the contemporary forms of resistance. My ongoing series Centaures Ordinaires reclaims and dismantles one of Western art history's most charged iconographies: the triumphant equestrian. The equestrian tradition has long served as one of the most explicit figures of domination: human over animal, civilization over nature, power over the body of the people. I operate a reversal. Young people in streetwear, uprooted from urban concrete, enter into a fragile alliance with the horse.
I am particularly attentive to what bodies reveal when they move together : the shared momentum, the loss of control, the suspended moment between revolt, collaboration and escape.
