Oleksandra Andriiash

I am a Ukrainian artist based in Germany, working primarily in plein-air watercolour.

What interests me most is not the object itself, but the atmosphere surrounding it — light, air, weather, and the feeling of a moment that cannot be repeated.

I love working plein-air because being physically present in a place allows me to see and feel far more than painting from a photograph ever could.

While painting, I sometimes feel like a long-exposure camera, absorbing colour, air, movement, and changing light.

I am deeply fascinated by the expressive nature of watercolour and the way pigment, water, edges, and transparency can create movement and guide the eye through a painting.

I love when a painting does not reveal itself all at once — when light and atmosphere capture the eye first, while quieter details and textures slowly emerge over time.

My paintings are an attempt to capture the beauty of things that are constantly shifting, disappearing, and transforming.
When I paint, I feel alive.
