Oleksandra Serhiienko

I was born in 1983 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. In February 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, I evacuated to Poland with my children, where I have lived and worked ever since. My artistic practice combines watercolor, drawing, and collage, often incorporating botanical imagery. I explore identity, female experience, forced migration, and the ways memory, culture, and social narratives shape our perception of ourselves and others. My works have been presented in group exhibitions in Ukraine, Turkey, Poland, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

As an artist, I strive to manifest the invisible — to give silence a voice and memory living color. I work with natural forms, botanical imagery, text, and found materials, moving between intimate observation and broader cultural and social questions. My practice is rooted in a belief that what we choose to see, preserve, and nurture reflects the value we place on life. When you are invisible to the world, it is as if you do not exist.
