Olena Tarnovska

Olena is a Ukrainian photographer and visual artist based in Italy. Art and photography have been part of her life since childhood. Trained as a lawyer, she considers the Kyiv School of Photography her photographic alma mater.
For Olena, photography is a way of living creativity. Her practice is rooted in close observation: attention to details, subtle elements and unexpected visual connections. She is drawn to the fascinating within the ordinary, finding aesthetic pleasure in textures, shadows, surface imperfections and the interplay of light and colour.
Her work explores the visual language of different photographic genres, with a particular interest in the harmony of black and white and the atmospheric qualities of colour. Alongside photography, Olena also experiments with artificial intelligence, ceramics and drawing.

Her photo books, series and individual works have received awards, nominations and honourable mentions at international competitions including the Prix de la Photographie de Paris (Px3), International Photography Awards, International Black and White Spider Awards, Tokyo International Foto Awards, London International Creative Competition and International Color Awards. Her photographs have been published in the photobook «100 Contemporary Ukrainian Photographers» and have been shown in the exhibition «Contemporary Ukrainian Photography» at the NuArt Gallery in Kyiv. Many of her works have also been exhibited at The Glasgow Gallery of Photography.
