Olga Buneeva

Biography

Olga Buneeva is an Italian-Russian artist who lives and works in Milan. Originally trained as a philologist, she works across ceramic sculpture and watercolor painting, exploring both family and collective memory. In her practice, cryptomnesia—the interweaving of personal and inherited memories—becomes a creative method. Through ceramics and color, she gives form to evolving organisms suspended between nature, the body, and memory.

Artist Statement

My practice investigates the mutation of form through ceramic sculpture and watercolor. I explore hybrid forms that resemble organisms emerging from radiation-scarred landscapes. As an Italian artist of Russian origin, I interweave collective history with family memory, addressing themes of fragility and transformation. I describe myself as a “third-generation mutant,” reflecting on the traces nuclear radiation leaves on bodies and future generations.

After initially studying philology, she chose to pursue the visual arts and graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. She later deepened her knowledge of ceramic techniques, and today ceramics, together with watercolor, form the core of her artistic practice.
