Olzhas Issan is a contemporary painter from Central Asia whose large-scale works explore endangered species, memory, landscape, and ecological disappearance. His ongoing series, “Vanishing Archetypes: The Memory of What Remains,” transforms threatened animals of Central Asia into symbolic presences between portraiture and abstraction. Returning to painting in 2025 after a twenty-five-year pause, he now develops a practice focused on ecology, cultural memory, and the fragile relationship between living beings and their habitats. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private and corporate collections, including the Standard Chartered Bank art collection in Frankfurt. His paintings have also been featured in Saatchi Art curated collections, including “New This Week” and “Art for the Bathroom.”
