Oleksandr Shapovalov

My name is Oleksandr Shapovalov. I am a Ukrainian fine-art photographer originally from Mariupol, currently living and working in Germany.

I do not merely capture reality—I paint with my camera. My photography has transcended documentation to become a space of pure sensation, where movement, time, and the boundaries of human perception are the core elements of my visual language.

"In my art, I strive to convey the feeling of initial discovery and a pristine perception of the world. I seek that exact moment when light and movement dissolve familiar boundaries, transforming the world into pure perception. It is a state before words and definitions—when we are just discovering reality."

The dissolution of strict forms in my work is a conscious step toward a painterly aesthetic. In my artistic practice, multiple exposures and intentional camera movement (ICM) merge into a single act of creation. My images are birthed entirely in-camera at the exact moment of capture. I strictly limit digital processing to nuanced color grading in RAW format, completely avoiding digital manipulation or compositing.
