Pamela Araya

Pamela Araya is a Costa Rican-born, New York–based visual artist whose work explores identity, displacement, and resilience through bold figurative paintings and mixed media. Drawing on personal narratives of immigration, motherhood, and mental health, Araya’s art interweaves symbolism and storytelling to confront the lasting effects of colonization and the struggle for belonging.

Her ongoing body of work, Avenida Nosara, reclaims Indigenous and Latin American voices erased by history, blending contemporary expressionism with cultural memory. Araya’s work has been exhibited at the National Women’s Hall of Fame, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, and other New York venues.

In addition to her studio practice, she teaches Foundation Drawing and Painting at Finger Lakes Community College, inspiring students to explore their own narratives through art.
