Afua Boadu

I have a rather eclectic life :). I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana and after high school, I embarked on an 8 year journey of studying & living in a couple of cities including St. Petersburg, Florida, Saint Etienne, France & Southampton, U.K. During this period I graduated from Eckerd College in Florida with a BA in Fine Art & French and then completed a BA in Fashion Design at the University of Southampton. I am a fashion designer at heart and hence my artwork has always been a reflection of that love. My first Artshow was a collection of 10 pieces that were skeletal fragment shapes stitched onto canvas, silk and satin. I still create art that borders on textile/print design. It simply finds itself on many more mediums other than canvas. Welcome to my kaleidoscope!

I studied at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida under auspicious professors such as Arthur Skinner, Brian Ransom, Marita Contreras and Kirk Wong. Under their well-guided hands, I developed skills and techniques in painting, illustration, proficient use of adobe photoshop, filmmaking, sculpture making and photography. My final degree here was a BA in Visual (Fine) Arts & French (Double Major).

I also studied painting, figure drawing, product design and art history during a one year study abroad stint in Saint Etienne, France at Université Jean Monnet de Saint Etienne.

Finally I studied Fashion design at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, England, U.K. Here I polished my drawing (illustration) skills and picked up on digital printing, knitting, weaving, marketing, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, hand painting, screen printing, pattern cutting & drafting and garment & accessory design and construction. My degree here was Textiles, Fashion & Fibre: Fashion Design Pathway.
