ABOUT
Pavel Berestovoy is an Indonesia-based fine art photographer specializing in large-format analog processes. Originally trained in photojournalism in Saint Petersburg, Russia, he spent over 15 years mastering the interplay between light and chemistry in the humid, tropical environment of Southeast Asia.
Berestovoy’s practice is a deliberate rejection of digital perfection. Working primarily with large-format cameras and orthochromatic films, he explores the physical boundaries of light-sensitive materials. His signature technique involves a non-traditional development process: instead of immersing the paper in a developer bath, he applies the chemistry manually using cloth and brushes. This "painterly" approach ensures that while the image belongs to a limited edition, each physical silver gelatin print is monotypic and entirely unique in its texture and tonal transitions.
Every work is hand-printed by the artist in his darkroom, signed, and marked with a personal seal, bridging the gap between classical photography and contemporary process-led art.
