Pepijn Simon creates an oeuvre in which the human psyche and nature converge in a continuous play between the interior and the exterior. His expressive style evokes comparisons with masters such as Francis Bacon, using deformation to expose a deeper truth about the human condition.

He prefers to work in short series, a method stemming from an inexhaustible curiosity and the drive to constantly explore new perspectives. This approach is visible in both his penetrating portraits and in series such as 'Into the Woods', in which nature is depicted as an abstract force field.

The choice of aluminum as a support is crucial, with Simon utilizing reflection to allow light to bounce through the oil paint. With great technical mastery and a superior command of the paint, he directs the material to make complex emotions and internal tensions tangible on the surface.

Simon works with a conviction and precision that forces the viewer into a confrontation with their own subconscious. The contrasts in his work testify to a profound knowledge of the painterly tradition and a constant urge to push the boundaries of artistic expression.
