Peta Jacobs

The inspiration for my art practice arises from a deep fascination with light. Influenced by the Californian Light and Space movement, Eastern philosophy, and quantum physics, my abstract, geometric mixed-media artworks explore the bizarre and paradoxical properties of the quantum world. This work evolved from my practice-based PhD research, titled "Making Quantum Questions Material…".

I reference quantum phenomena with recurring motifs, including entwined particle-wave dualities, enfolding and unfolding orders, and the holistic interconnectedness of all things.

I appropriate apparatus from two-slit experiments that investigate the quantum nature of light, directly into my art. Elements like mirrors, prisms, dichroic materials, and diffraction gratings create playful, illusory experiences of superposition, entanglement, and interference patterns.

Using lenticular and dichroic surfaces, articulates physicist David Bohm’s concepts of the holomovement and implicate/explicate orders—the perpetual flux and becoming of the undivided wholeness underlying reality.
