Eugene Pinkowski,born in 1954, became intrigued by his father's Polaroid-Land Camera at the age of seven. Seeing recent events captured as tiny black+white images, within minutes, fascinated him.
Pinkowski continued taking "snapshots' whenever he could with whatever cameras he could access.Considered a prodigy in mathematics, he saw the photographic image as an equation.Being the first member of his family to attend college, and intended to become a lawyer.
Upon entering UCLA, Pinkowski never considered a career in photography, film, or "The Arts", until he enrolled in a mandatory art history class.He excelled in this forum of bold expressions through the use of paint,paper, cement, metal,marble,rubber;a world of endless possibility.This was then Pinkowski immersed himself in the photographic process.Focusing on Black + White film, as "it was all I could afford..color film was so expensive", he built a darkroom in his apartment and taught himself how to develop,print, and retouch.
