My name is Oksana Pokutsa. I was born and raised in Ukraine, where I began studying Petrykivka painting from an early age — a decorative folk tradition built on flowers, birds, flowing ornament, and the visual memory of generations. When I emigrated to Israel, I carried this tradition with me — not as something preserved in the past, but as a living artistic practice capable of evolving, adapting, and speaking to the present. My work exists at the intersection of heritage and minimalism. Rooted in the visual rhythms of Petrykivka painting, I developed my own artistic language, which I call Folk Minimalism — traditional ornament reduced, softened, and reimagined through textured contemporary surfaces such as concrete, stone, plaster, and raw mineral finishes. My paintings are not reproductions of folklore; they are conversations with cultural memory.
