ABOUT THE ARTWORK
With watercolours you get one perhaps two chances to make a mark. It is performative. I was painting a lot of watercolours in the late 1990s. Inevitably some fail. A student had given me a box of artpapers and I started experimenting with editing, overdrawing and overpainting often with acrylic. The result was a series of collages completed around 1998 1999. This one was inspired by a city renovation project that was underway by an old canalside in Birmingham UK.

I was a painter to begin. I started doing computer art in the late 70s, programmed at first but then evolving into a couple of strands of practice. Today the painting and the computer work interact sometimes, because of digital media I also retrieve and revisit old work when it merits it. Art theorists and historians tend to demand a kind of monotony in creatives' work, I lost interest in that kind of thesis a long time ago so I have fun and do what interests me, hence the range of styles and approaches.
