Colin Kapernick-A Portrait of Sports Activism Print

Activism and courage come in different forms. Sportsmen and women have had the courage to stand up for social issues throughout history. I have used Kaepernick's portrait to pay homage to some of the most courageous social activists among the great sportspeople of the 20th and 21st centuries. This portrait has Kaepernick's African American heritage illustrated through images of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Other sports activists in his portrait are Rapinoe, Ali, the Black panthers, Jesse Owens etc. Other images represent Kaepernick's college and sports affiliations, parts of his speeches and some sayings from other activists. The turtle represents Colin's pet. Hope you enjoy the details and depth of this picture. I sketch lightly with pencil on canvas and the "paint" by cutting tiny pieces of fabric and gluing them to the canvas. Every line and dot is made of fabric. It is a single medium. I love the depth and texture that fabric gives to the piece.
